Ken Hinckley is a Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research. See the About page for a short bio and description of his research accomplishments.

As part of my work as a research scientist I help Microsoft to file patents related to my research areas.

The following represents my best reckoning of my published patents to date.  And of course I’ve filed bunches more in the past 18 months that have not yet published (grin).

Please note that on almost all of these I have multiple co-inventors, and on many I’m not the first named inventor either. But it’s too much work for me to track down the correct inventor lists and dates for every single one of these, so this is the best I could manage quickly. Also, it’s difficult for me to keep track of which applications have actually been granted or not, so there is likely some duplication or other errors of transcription in the list that follows; if you need definitive information seek it out at the U.S. Patent Office.

Likewise, while some of these inventions have shipped in one form or anther, in general my research covers a lot of territory, so please keep in mind that these filings just represent nuggets of intellectual property and therefore in general they correspond poorly, if at all, to actual Microsoft products.
